After leaving Kyle, the scenery got prettier and prettier. There were lots of trees and some lovely rivers and farms. It was a nice drive, actually. I think Houston has a beautiful skyline. It reminded me of Seattle.
Before getting back on I-10, we drove on a back road from Kyle. We saw two great things. I tried to get Mel to stop so I could take photos for you but he wouldn’t. When he is on a driving roll, he won’t stop. So, you will have to take my work for it that it was funny.
First we saw a golf driving range with an old broken down car out in the middle of it. I guess somebody thought driving range actually meant driving range. The next was a skydiving school with a large sign advertising skydiving lessons. We both decided we wouldn’t be taking our skydiving lesson there, however. There was a wrecked small plane crashed into the sign! It was very funny.
We didn’t drive very far and I didn’t think we would ever get through Texas but we finally saw the 880 mile marker and then we were in Louisiana. The road went from pretty good to HORRIBLE! Evidently, LA doesn’t have money to fix their roads. They were concrete with expansion joints about every 15 feet. The sections of cement had shifted so it was babam babam babam for miles and miles and miles! For some reason, traffic was horrendous once we entered LA. I don’t know where everyone was going because there wasn’t much to go to around there.
Mel did a great job of braking in time today right up until the last hour of driving. I think he was getting tired and cranky so I cut him some slack.
We left about 9 AM from the Deliverance RV Park and drove until 5 tonight. We stopped at Cajun Haven RV Park in Egan, Louisiana, about 350 miles. Their logo is a travel trailer being pulled by a big green gator. They must have had a ton of rain here lately because everything is terribly flooded. There is a lake outside the door of the Global Warmer.
Mel & I discussed the turn signal thing today during the drive. This was what he said:
- He will turn on the signal when he is ready to move over. He does not need to ask their permission.
- Turn signals are on a “need to know” basis.
Well, evidently, the drivers behind him do not need to know he is moving over until he is pushing into their lane. Go figure.
The only excitement came when we turned off to find an RV park to stay and spied a WAL-MART!!!!! We felt like we were home! Wal-Mart is our friendJ. We pulled down to the entrance and the jerks had a 12’ low overhang on all the entrances to their parking lot so motorhome over 12’ couldn’t park! So, smiles turned upside down, we entered back onto I-10 once more to find a safe haven for the night. We pulled off again and followed the signs to an RV park but then discovered it was 25 miles off the freeway! Mel said that should be illegal and some other things not fit for print and we pressed on looking for a place to turn around. We ended up having to drive 20 miles out of the way to get back to the 10 because there was no place large enough to turn the GW around without slipping off into the Louisiana mud forever.
I love billboards. I know they are tacky but I love reading them. Mel seems to enjoy them as well although he might not admit to it. He spied an ad for hash and eggs and said that was what he really wanted. Well, as vegans, that is difficult. Sometimes we do miss regular food so I try to reproduce it without the cholesterol and other crap. Mel said he bet I could blend up some tofu in the mixer with turmeric for color and nutritional yeast and then drag it across a chicken’s ass and TA DA! Egg!
So, it is time to feed the girlz and listen to the freeway all night.
