Lisa Greene's Poodle Doggies And the Horrible Hooligan Hoodlums
Our friend Lisa Green asked us to take care of her Poodle Doggies for a while until she gets better. Here are some videos we made for Lisa. Release the Hounds! 6-17-05 This was taken the day we brought the girlz, Charisse (2 1/5) and Josephine (5 1/5) to stay with us. We let them all out of the car and they ran and ran and ran. It must have felt so good to stretch their legs after the long drive from Eugene, Oregon to Silver Creek, Washington. Lisa's dogs are the ones with the longer hair. Get The Ball...Get The Ball...6-24-05 The dogs had a great time chasing the ball until poor Millie ran into the tire. MiniMe was very upset that she didn't get to play too so every once in a while I would toss her the ball. it is hard to tell all the girlz apart because they all have the same hairdo. Lisa's doggies are the ones in the bandanas. Release The Hounds! 7-6-05 They just have so muich fun! Charisse Learns To Weave & GO ON! 7-6-05 She is a quick study! 7-9-05 Closing Down The Weaves Charisse is starting to wiggle now. We put the wires back on after this was taken so we could close them down a little more. Without the wires, she popped out. 7-9-05 Mel & Josephine Are Getting To Know Each Other's Body Language Josephine picks up body language so quickly! Her contacts can be much faster and Mel is working on that but not in this video. He will use this as a baseline.
7-24-05 Charisse Weaves Progress The weaves are now only open a couple of inches. She is single striding and driving nicely. I took off the wires and it didn't make any difference at all. I really don't think the wires add much at all. If the dog wants to go under or over them they can. They learn to go all the way through just fine without them I think. Gates would be better to keep the dog in the weaves but I think they learn more without any props. 7-24-05 Jumping Charisse is learning to apply directionals well to the jumps and her "go on" is really getting good. Now, if I had better body language, I would use my body to turn her. It would make her turns tighter but I can't depend on my body so I use my voice. She is driving well. 7-24-05 Table I played around with using "table down" or "table sit" like I use with Isabella but Charisse goes down before the table so I am going to just use table and train for an automatic down first. When she gets that, I will train for a sit. 7-24-05 The Tire & Teeter Isn't she a good girl? She is really getting brave banging the teeter! 8-17-05 Weaving! Charisse's Weave are getting very good! 9-28-05 6 Weaves For Entries We went back to 6 weaves so we could work entries. Charisse has only been working straight up weaves now for a few sessions. I am going to open them back up a touch to encourage more speed and better form. Notice my granddaughter Sicily in the background. Sicily is getting very bored as you can see in the following sequences. 10-13-05 Weaving 12 Straight Poles Charisse has been weaving 12 poles straight up for a week. She is .3 - .5 seconds slower than she was when they were open. Now that she understands the job, I put a name to them and will start driving her for more speed! We are working on a fast down for the table but aren't there yet. 9-28-05 Simple Box Work and the Chute
7-30-05 Josephine Novice P JWW This was the first time Mel ran Josephine in competition. All I can say is WOW! Her run was 5.65yps. Yes it was Novice and yes, Josephine is a seasoned competitor BUT... she hadn't run since a year ago June, had a litter of puppies and has only been back training a month! Me has never run a fast dog in his life! He ran a Westie in AKC for a bit ut that is it besides Millie in USDAA and in NADAC! The run isn't perfect but pretty fun to watch. 21 seconds! Don't blink! 7-30-05 Novice P Standard All I can say is WOW! This run had some errors. They were slow on the table and lost a couple of seconds, then they had a spin and lost several seconds AND momentum. They ran it in 35 seconds! Without all the bobbles, they would have run it in UNDER 30 seconds!!!! THAT IS FAST! They were 40 secondes under course time!Their yps were 3.85 with all those mistakes! Had they run without the table bobble and the spin, they would have been OVER 4 yps! I was more nervous for Mel than I ever get for myself! (Actually, I don't get nervous for myself LOL).
8-06-05 Josephine Standard NoviceP If the above run was a WOW then this one is off the charts! Josephine ran 4.47 yards per second in STANDARD! Yes, it IS Novice but hey, that is STILL amazing. She was 55 seconds UNDER SCT! 8-07-05 Josephine JWW Novice P Josephine ran over 6 yps! Unfortunately, Mel was late with his front cross and she hit a bar. She is pretty cool! 8-07-05 Josephine NovoceP Standard Over 4 yps with a slow table! Josephine is truly amazing. 8-13-05 Josephine USDAA Standard This finished her Starter Standard title and she won the class 8-13-05 Josephine USDAA Grand Prix Second place in a very competitive 26" class! Mel is still learning to trust Josephine to take what he asks so he waits on her. When Mel runs faster, so will Josephine. 8-13-05 Josephine USDAA Steeplechase A great run but they missed getting into the finals by one dog. Mel made some handling errors to send her way wide in a few spots or they would have made it. Still he is doing a great job! 8-14-05 Josephine USDAA Snooker They WON! 8-14-05 Josephine USDAA Standard Great run but a bar came down so no Q. She had the fastest time of any height! 8-14-05 USDAA Starter Pairs 1st place! 8-27-05 AKC Excellent Standard This was Mel & Josephine's first run in Excellent together and Josephine's first time back in excellent in over a year. They lost some time on the table and the 180 before it but it was a very nice run. They ran 4.37.yps. 8-27-05 AKC Excellent QQ #21 for Josephine! This run was 5.5 yps. 8-28-05 AKC Excellent Standard. A Q and second place.. 4.2 yps! 2005 Bay Team Super Regional - Sunnyvale, CA 9-3-05 USDAA Novice Gambler 1st place! 9-04-05 USDAA Pairs Mel hobbled around to get this pairs leg but couldn't run Josdephine any more after this run so UNcle Jef took over. Josephine was convinced that Mel messed up only doing half of a course so she was giving him hell at the end. Voucher wanted a piece of that action so Uncle Jef and Voucher (a baby dog) were very slow to start. The team still took second place even with a 13 second exchange! 9-04-05 USDAA Advanced Standard Mel hurt his knee and couldn't run so Uncle jef stepped in and ran Josephine. He turned and pulled her out of the weaves snd she really gave him hell! She is amazingly responsive. Great job Uncle Jef. 9-04-05 Grand Prix Uncle Jef did a fine job with Josephine and they qualified giving Josephine the 2 Grand Prix Qs needed to compete in the USDAA Nationals. The judge called her on the DW contact but from where everyone else was, it sure looked like she hit it! 9-04-05 Steeplechase What a heartbreaker this was. Uncle Jef turned too soon and pulled her off a jump causing them to lose time. They would have made it into the finals even with that but she knocked the last bar. She was very angry with Uncle Jef for making her miss the jump. Their time was very close to the winners even with the spin! 9-05-05 Advanced Standard A Q for her second leg of her Advanced standard title. SHe was only second because she refused to lie down on the table for Uncle Jef and it cost her dearly in time. Josephine is very opinionated indeed! 9-05-05 Starters Snooker This run was very funny. The judge was an old friend of Josephine. She trained with her when she was just getting started in agility. Josephine remembered her and went to visit her. Josephine put her nose in the air, sniffed and said went running over. She also went back after her run to visit again. Such a social butterfly! After the run the judge said, " OK, come say hi Josephine! I know you you and your mom trained with me." She also judged the Grand Prix finals but, THANK GOD, Josephine didn't go visiting in that run. 9-05-05 Starters Jumper A great run and another Q for Josephine and Uncle Jef! 9-05-05 The Grand Prix Finals!!! Josephine was fast enough to win a spot in the semi-finals at the USDAA Nationals! She would have placed even higher but she knocked a bar. Not bad finishing that high at a Super Regional WITH a knocked bar!!! Thanks Uncle Jef! GREAT JOB! Josephine & Helen 9-17-05 USDAA Advanced Pairs Mel's knee waas still hurting so I ran Josephine. Because I am severely limited in my movement, poor Josephine struggled to interpret my body language. She is pretty dang smart because she picked it up after a few runs. This was our first run. We Qed and were second because my pairs partner had a bar down or we would have won. 9-17-05 USDAA Grand Prix This is the first time I had ever run in a Grand Prix in my life! We managed to get around and Q. We had some major time losses due to lack of understanding or we would have placed third. We ended up 5th. I am ashamed of myself for using the off arm! I try very hard not to use it but what we learn first we learn best (according to the experts:) and that is SO true! 9-18-05 USDAA Gamblers Josephine did a great job! She Qed and placed first. 9-18-05 USDAA Advanced Standard title! Josephine pulled out of the first weave pole because I yelled "GET EM!" That is what I say to ISabella. Josephine looked at me as if tosay, "GET WHAT YOU MORON?" She still won the class handily, even with repeating the weave entry! What a great dog and what a great job Lisa did training her. Even I can run her! LOL 9-18-05 USDAA Advanced Jumper Josephine was amazing in this run. The biggest problem I have running her is her lack of a great "GO ON." Jose and I have never once trained together so it was a huge problem for us. It is not a problem with Mel or Uncle Jef because they can run but I am too slow to put pressure on her so she slows to see what I am doing. We lost a ton of time at the end of this run so we were second by one second. Had we not lost all that time arguing over the last two jumps, she would have won by a large margin. I really felt as though I let her down not being able to get there for her. We still had fun though even though I AGAIN used that dang off arm at the end! Bad habits are hard to break! Nobody may ever let me run Josephine again (even if I promise not to use my off arm:). I may have to hit Mel in his knee with a bat so I can run her some more. oh, and I guess I will have to hit Uncle Jef too but I will have have a hard time catching Uncle Jef. Mel should be easy to catch 'cause he can barely move with his bad knee. Piece of cake! 9-24-05 AKC Josephine Standard Q & 1st Place Even taking so long to on the DW to get into her 2o2o position, Josephine still won this class. 9-25-05 AKC Josephine JWW Q & Third Place Even though I tried to send her off course, Josephine was third. She saved me again! She is brginning to go on a bit better. She still stalled out at the end waiting for slow me to catch up to her. We are working on that. 9-26-05 AKC Josephine JWW Q & Second Place She is so much fun to run. Near the end of the run, the judge raised her hand for a fault. I knew we were clean and everyone started yelling NO WAY! I turned around to her after we finished and asked her what we did wrong. You will see her put her hand to her head trying to figure it out LOL. She realized she had made a mistake and took it back. She thought we went into the wrong end of the tunnel but we didn't. I told the judge that Josephine is so fast, she had trouble seeing where she went! LOL.Meanwhile, poor Josephine was asking me what was wrong too. I felt SO bad that I ignored poor Josephine :( I gave her lots of attention after I came to my senses and she was very happy. Mel & Josephine Again! 10-8-05 AKC Standard. Mel's first time running again since he hurt his knee. He had to keep it to rear crosses and was very conservative. Josephine LOVES running with Mel and she lets him know it too! It was the largest trial in the NW in 2 years! There were some very nice dogs competing and Qing. Even taking it easy, Josephine & Mel were 2nd with a 4.35yps! 10-8-05 AKC JWW Unfortunately, a bar went down but otherwise clean. This run was a blazing 6.4yps! 10-9-05 AKC Standard Again Mel ran very conservatively AND Josephine spun near the end. It was a Q and third place. Had it not been for the spin, they would have been second. 4.4yps WITH A SPIN! 10-22-05 AKC JWW Mel is still nursing his knee so he is trying to stick to rear crosses. Josephine's turns aren't as tight with the rear crosses and they had a spin at the end which also cost them time. They were still second with a great time! Even with the spin at the end and the very wide turn, Josephine was still OVER 5 yps! 10-23-05 AKC JWW Even with the rear crosses and a gimpy handler, Josephine was fast enough to win this large EX. B JWW class! 5.5 yps!!! 10-23-05 AKC Standard This should have been a double Q but Mel ran into the standard and knocked over the jump. You'll hear Uncle Jef at the end of the run saying how he SHOULD have run it.
The Nearly Perfect AKC Weekend! Josephine & Mel were nearly perfect at the New Year weekend trial put on by SW Rottweiler Club of San Diego. They went 5 for 6 and won every class in which they Qed! They also picked up 164 MACH points for the weekend!!! In the one class with no Q, Josephine hit a bar and then Mel ran into the upright of a jump. Mel was also feeling very ill and fighting a terrible cold! Here are the videos. 12/30/05 Standard Double Q number 22 & First Place! Notice Mel tries to send her off course near the end, just before the dog walk but pulls it out at the last minute. Josephine gets a bad angle to the DW but she saves his butt again! 12/30/05 JWW First Place! Notice that poor Josephine takes a header but never misses a beat! 12/31/05 Standard First Place! 12/31/05 JWW OUCH!!!! Poor Mel! 1/1/06 Standard First Place! 1/1/06 JWW First Place
RAT USDAA TRIAL 4-15 & 16 06 Mel & Josephine were 8 for 9 this weekend! They also picked up their AAD Title. 4-15-06 USDAA Advanced Jumper A very nice run. They were second. 4-16-06 USDAA Advanced Snooker This was good enough for a first place and completed Josephine's AAD title!!!! 4-16-06 USDAA Steeplechase Final Round Too bad about the bar but they were 5th even with the bar down. 4-16-06 USDAA Grand Prix This Q qualified them for the NW Regionals. CAT USDAA Trial 4-22 & 4-23 2006 4-23-06 USDAA Steeplechase finals Mel & Josephine were 8th out of 25 finalists in this run. They would have been higher but for a bobble before the last jump! They won cash too and that makes Mel very happy :) They had a very nice weekend indeed with more nice Qs besides this one!
Josephine AKC Fiesta Cluster Scottsdale, Arizona 2006 DOUBLE Q 3/04/06 JWW Third place 3/04/06 Standard Unfortuntely, we don't have this one on tape. Second place (24 seconds under sct) DOUBLE Q 3/05/06 JWW (13 seconds under sct) second place 3/05/06 Standard 24 seconds under sct Josephine being very cute after her runs Isn't she the cutest?
Charisse's Weaves And Other Things 12/14/05Weaving & Things. Charisse has been weaving with closed weave poles now for about two months. I am able to leave her in the weaves as you can see from this video. I am not even in the picture. Her entries are quite good as well. I think she will speed up some more as well as she gets more comfortable in the weaves. She is just starting the end behavior on the teeter. She is still tentative but getting more brave every day. She will also run up the high teeter as we hold it and then lower it. It took a very long time for her to trust us enough to do the teeter at all.
2-21-06 Teeter and Baby A-frame Charisse was absolutely petrified of the teeter when we first began training it back in July. We started by just having her slam it down to the ground with her front feet (it took a very long time to shape her to do that because of her fear). Then I just had her come around my hip on a lowered teeter for a long time and Mel would also hold up a full height teeter and she ran up the board to treats Mel fed her. We then lowered the teeter slowly at first and progressed it until he could drop it from full height and she didn't care. We found it very difficult to go from holding the teeter up and dropping it to just letting it drop out from under her when she got to the end of the board and we had many setbacks trying to train that. So, Mel had the idea to start by lowering the teeter to the bottom mark (we have a great adjustable teeter from Agilityagogo) and work over that until she got comfortable. Now we are on the second hole up on the teeter adjustment. She is almost ready to go to the third hole. We will continue to train her that way until she is confident with a full height teeter. She is really starting to get it. Whenever she gets a bit confused, we add the target back into it and that seems to help her understanding of the behavior. She does NOT generalize at all so every time I change my position or the teeter position, we put the target back down until she understands what is expected of her. I must go very very slowly with Charisse because she is so fearful of new things. There are a few clips of Charisse on the baby A-frame as well. I can work that in my backyard (tiny as it is the yard AND the A-frame) and it seems to help her understand the behavior.
4-16-06 Charisse in USDAA Jumper. Charisse was very good! I peeled off the double too soon so she came with me but she ran well. She is starting to get the hang of it.This was her first USDAA Q! I had never done a triple with her so she took a good look at it and put in an extra step. Uncle Jef paid her the best compliment of all. I said to him that I thought Charisse was pretty fast for a Poodle and Uncle jef said, "She is pretty fast for any breed." That made me very proud of Charisse. 5-14-06 Charisse AKC JWW Q This wasn't pretty but it was good enough for her second JWW Q and first place. She gets her weaves at home every time but is just too high to get them yet in trials. She will get it eventually. MORE TRAINING VIDEOS
9-14-05 The Swimmin' Hole! The girlz had a great time swimming in the pool. Josephine dive bombs everyone on purpose and thinks she is funny. You can see that MeME is a MUCH better swimmer than she was before her swimming lessons. Charisse swims better when she isn't being dive bombed by her sister. Later I had just Charisse swim and she swam very well. She just gets so excited, she can't think..
10-13-05 GET THE BALL! Notice poor Isabella poops out before everyone else. MiniMe has learned to hang back so I throw the ball for only her. The girlz have a lot of fun!
11-14-05 POOL PARTY 1 !!!! Uncle Jef & Auntie Rossie stopped here in Indio, CA on their way to and from the USDAA Nationals in Scottsdale. We had 10 dogs at our house (and we are limited to TWO by our homeowners association!)! 5 are ours and Lisa's and three own Uncle Jef & Rossie and two were Barb Davis' dogs. The mostly white BC belongs to Barb as well as the Sheltie PJ who finished 6th in the Steeplechase AND Grand Prix finals at Nationals. Milo, Jef's Lab liked to jump off the high side of the pool and Josephine LOVES to dive bomb everyone. It is her favorite thing to do Josephine & Charisse are getting to be very good swimmers as you can see in this wild and crazy POOL PARTY! Charisse is wearing the collar and Josephine is nekked (no collar). MeMe is the one doing all of the barking (she won't go in the pool when there are so many dive bombings going on). Millie is very upset at the melee and is giving everyone hell at the end and telling them to GET OUT OF THE POOL!!!!! POOL PART 2 !!!!!!!!!!
Charisse Weaves and Sequences. 2-16-06 Weaves and stuff Charisse is such a hard worker. She always gives it her all.
